Gabriela Mora

Gabriela Mora graduated from Carrboro High School in 2022, and is the seventh recipient of The Lynnette Omar Scholarship.

At Carrboro, Gabby was captain of the cheerleading team and a member of Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a non-profit organization that develops STEM curriculum for K-12 students.

She is currently attending University of North Carolina at Greensboro and plans to major in political science.

Heri Ongechi

Heri Ongechi graduated from Carrboro High School in 2021, and is the sixth recipient of The Lynnette Omar Scholarship.

Originally born in Nairobi, Kenya, Heri moved to the United States when he was two months old.

At Carrboro, Heri was a member of the varsity cross country, track, and soccer teams, and was second cello for the school orchestra. Additionally, he serves as Executive Administrator for A.O.K. (Adventist Outreach Kids), a community service organization at his church. Heri will be the first awardee to graduate valedictorian of his class.

He is currently attending the University of North Carolina, with plans to study business and economics.

Heri aspires to become an entrepreneur and eventual leader of his own business, in addition to creating a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving under-privliged youth.

Adjaratou Diouf

Adjaratou Diouf graduated from Carrboro High School in 2021, and is the fifth recipient of The Lynnette Omar Scholarship.

Originally born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Adjaratou moved to the United States when she was 13 years old.

At Carrboro, Adjaratou was Vice President of the Unity Club and a member of the school board committee.

She is currently attending North Carolina Central University, with plans to major in public health and minor in communications. Adjaratou will be part of North Carolina Central University's Honors Program, which prepares students to change the world through peer mentoring, internships, and community service.

She aspires to become an epidemiologist, and hopes to reduce the frequency of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and respiratory illnesses in African countries, and more specifically Côte d'Ivoire.

Maria Andrea Quintero Ruiz

Maria Andrea Quintero Ruiz graduated from Carrboro High School in 2020, and is the fourth recipient of The Lynnette Omar Scholarship.

Born in Buga, Columbia, Maria moved to the United States when she was 11 years old.

At Carrboro, Maria was President of the Unity Club, and member of the National Achievers Society and the National TRI-M Music Honor Society.

She is currently attending Appalachian State University, and plans on majoring in Building Sciences - Sustainable Building Systems. Maria will be apart of the Watauga Honors Program, which specifically focuses on helping the local community in Boone, North Carolina through public service work.

Maria aspires to help low-income communities by designing sustainable and affordable homes.

David Gonzalez Chavez

David Gonzalez Chavez graduated from Carrboro High School in 2019, and is the third recipient of the Lynnette Omar Scholarship.

At Carrboro, David was president of the Math Club, and participated in the Quiz Bowl club and school garden. David also served as the tutoring coordinator at El Centro Hispano of Carrboro, and regularly mentored at 'Startup Weekend' events across North Carolina.

Before attending the University of North Carolina in the Fall of 2020, David will participate in the Global Gap Year Fellowship, where he will volunteer in Northern Ireland and surrounding countries. In addition to the Lynnette Omar Scholarship, David has been awarded the Pogue Scholarship, admission into the Kenan-Flagler Business School, and entry into Honors Carolina. He hopes to dual major in Business and Anthropology, and continue his involvement with the Hispanic community of Carrboro.

Cameron Farrar

Cameron Farrar graduated from Carrboro High School in 2018 and is the second recipient of the Lynnette Omar Scholarship.

At Carrboro Cameron was involved with student government, a support group called Back girls for Black Girls, Key Club , Vice President of National Achievers Society and and active member of National Honors Society

Cameron attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and obtained a Bachelors and Master degree in Sociology.

TENDO NAKASENGE

Tendo Nakasenge graduated from Carrboro High School in 2017, and is the first recipient of the Lynnette Omar Scholarship.

Born in Mityana, Uganda, Tendo moved to Chapel Hill when she was 3 years old.

At Carrboro she graduated magna cum laude, was Vice President of the CHS Bee Club, and Captain of the Girls Cross Country and Track and Field teams.

Tendo attended UNC Chapel Hill, where she obtained a degree in Sociology.
